Express your outrage

Ordinary Americans

Topics for alerting local and national media

One of our most important rights in America is the right of free speech. However,, if you do not regularly express your outrage to your local and national media outlets, that right is wasted.

When you write to the editor of a newspaper, magazine or television network, it is important that you use your own ideas, opinions, knowledge and words. However, to help you get started, below are some possible topics you might want to address.

  1. The president and congress work for all the American people, not just the wealthy few who hold political power. Half the country voted against George W. Bush and his terrible track record.

  2. The current president has changed the tax system so that working people have less money, and wealthy investors accumulate more.

  3. There is nothing unpatriotic about criticizing the government. This is especially true when our president is incompetent, reckless, and arrogant.

  4. We need to make health care more affordable and accessible. Seven million americans have no health insurance, and the number is rising.

  5. Bush and Cheney have been lying to the American people since the day they took office. In fact, they told lies to get elected. It's time for a more open, accountable government.

  6. We need to protect Social Security. If working people are not required to pay into Social Security, then there are no funds to support those who are currently retired.

  7. We need to keep extremist judges off the bench. Right-wing judges take away freedom and rights from American citizens, and wrongly force religion into science and public education.

  8. People are dying in Iraq every day in a war that has nothing to do with defending ourselves against terrorism. The president should be held accountable for these thousands of lives lost.

  9. The continuous secrecy and censorship within the Bush administration contradicts the peoples' right to know about what our government is doing. While Bush is focused on punishing his enemies in the press, the CIA, and within government, the country continues to slide downhill.
